Finding Your GOV.UK Check Code

As of 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart of the driving licence has now been abolished by the DVLA, and will no longer provide an accurate guide to the drivers’ endorsements or entitlements, which are required by rental companies for insurance and identity certification purposes. Any updates to licences will be held centrally by the DVLA, but drivers will still need to retain the plastic photocard.

There are number of ways you can provide your driving licence information to us:

  1. Generate a code for the driver’s licence using the “Share my Licence” facility on the DVLA website. You will then need to provide the code to the rental desk, who will use it to confirm your licence information via the DVLA. These codes are only valid for 72 hours.
  2. We can call the DVLA to verify endorsement details but the driver will need to be present to confirm their identity. Lines are open Monday – Friday, 8 am – 7 pm, and Saturday 8 am – 2 pm. If you are unable to be present you will need to call the DVLA on 0300 790 6801 to leave your permission for us to make the check.
  3. You may be asked to bring along your National Insurance number in order for a licence check to be made at the point of collection. You will then be asked if you would like a copy of your licence details.
