AGE
AGE 21-24
- Must have held full licence for a period of two years
- Not permitted to drive Minibuses/MPVs/7.5 ton vehicles
- Basic Damage excess increased by £400
- 21-22 YEAR OLDS MUST BE FREE OF CONVICTION
- 23-24 YEAR OLDS ARE PERMITTED ONE MINOR CONVICTION
(3 POINTS) IN LAST 3 YEARS (those convictions not highlighted below)
AGE 25 and above
- Must have held a full driving licence for a period of 12 months
- Note – Standard cover does not apply for Hirers/drivers over 75 years of age (69 on Minibuses and 7.5 tonners). Please note we will have to exercise discretion over the suitability of anyone over this age driving your vehicles, allowing for the sensitivities involved, also having to refer to our broker for clearance.
ACCIDENT HISTORY
Insurers require each driver to disclose all accidents which have occurred in the previous 3 years, irrespective of circumstance or fault. It is important hirers know that a false declaration can lead to serious consequences.
The following guidelines outline the action to take for persons aged 25 and over – we may have to refer for clearance
- Up to 1 fault accident in last 3 years ` OK to rent
- 2 fault accidents in last 3 years Refer to broker
- 3 or more accidents in last 3 years Unacceptable –DO NOT RENT
Note – Insurers consider any accident or claim where payments could not be recovered from a third party to be a fault accident.
21-22 Year olds must be free from any fault accidents, 23-24 year olds are permitted one “minor” (total own damage/third party costs less than £2,000) at fault accident in the last 3 years.

OCCUPATIONS
Certain occupations can either create a higher incidence of claims or are likely to produce claims with exceptionally high value injury settlements. In order to protect our claims record and subsequent premiums, we need to take care to establish a person’s occupation and then check against the following categories.
Note: Self employed, Manager and Director are job titles or positions, not occupations.
Excluded occupations – can not rent unless referred:
- Entertainers and Musicians
- Professional sportspersons
- Persons connected with Gambling, including on-course Bookmakers.
- Persons connected with Racing
- Off course Bookmakers
- General Dealers, Market Traders, Street Traders
- Scrap Metal Merchants
- Modelling
Higher risk occupations – we must take care when referring
- Publicans and employees of licensed premises
- UK students under 25 or any foreign student
- Foreign Service Personnel
